One of the main aims of this book is to explore how Mother Teresa became famous, how she handled fame and why she succeeded where many celebrated people from the worked of politics, entertainment and sport fail so often, some of them spectacularly. I found the answer to these and other important issues in Mother Teresa’s private life. This is not to say that this book is a biography. The biographical approach I follow throughout, the study is largely determined by the often eclectic and selective nature of most of her existing biographies. In spite of numerous biographical works on her published since 1969, a complete biography of Mother Teresa has yet to be written. Even the best of her authorized and unauthorized biographies tend to offer only a partial picture of her life. The current study is partly intended to fill in the gaps, some of them surprisingly huge in the literature about the nun. Moreover, it is hoped that the emphasis I put on some key moments in Mother Teresa’s life in Skopje and Calcutta will inspire future biographers and scholars to study further and more impartially every state of her life and work.
